Community Calendar for Week of January 18

NOW – FEBRUARY
There is a free open gym for 1st through 5th graders every Saturday from to 11 a.m. at ZoneOut Sports, Morris Court, Hurricane.

JANUARY 18
The Bridge Church, 279 Dairy Road, Poca, will be holding a free clothing, hot meal, and food pantry event from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
The Bancroft Mission, 5963 Charleston Road, Bancroft, willbe holding an evening of praise and thanksgiving starting at 7 p.m.

JANUARY 19 – 20
The West Virginia Hunting and Fishing Show will be held at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center. Hours are Friday 12-9 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $12 for ages 12 and up.

JANUARY 19
Otter Branch Church, 2402 18 Mile Creek, Buffalo, will be hosting an escape room for kindergarten through high school from 7 p.m. to midnight.

JANUARY 20
There will be a bee hotel and hive painting workshop from 10 a.m. to noon at the West Sattes Community Center, 234 Lee Avenue, Nitro.
The River to Ridges Blizzard Blow Out Disc Golf Tournament will start at 10 a.m. at the Eleanor Park. For more information, call 304-541-3858.
There will be an informational meeting for the Tri-State Film Club from 10 a.m. to noon at Teays ValleY Church of God, 185 Connection Point, Scott Depot.
There will be a workshop on “Choosing Forgiveness When Forgetting Isn’t an Option” from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Zoology Zone Science Center, Valley Park, Hurricane. The cost is $30 a seat which can be reserved by texting “Forgiveness” to 304-840-9300.
Local historian Philip Hatfield will be discussing his new book, “A History of Putnam County, West Virginia, in the Civil War,” at 12:30 p.m. at the Hurricane City Hall.

JANUARY 21
Visual Volume, the Poca High School Show Choir, will be hosting their Dot Debut dinner theatre and show choir performance. Dinner will be served from 1 to 4 p.m., with shows at 2:30 and 4 p.m. Tickets are $25 at the door for adults and $20 for children ages 5 – 10.

JANUARY 23
Junior Explorers ages 0-6 can learn about the wonders of the universe and experience amazing animals from around the world from 9 a.m. to noon at Zoology Zone Science Center, located in Valley Park in Hurricane. Adults ages 13 and up: $8. Kids 4-12: $6. Ages 0-12: free.
The Hurricane Civic Chorus will be holding an open house from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church, Putnam Avenue, Hurricane. New members welcome.

JANUARY 26
Brandon Tolliver will be performing at 8 p.m. at Brookse’s Bar and Grill, 13184 Winfield Road, Winfield.
The Putnam County Chamber of Commerce will be holding their annual dinner and celebration at 6 p.m. at Valley Park Conference Center in Hurricane. For tickets, go to https://shorturl.at/gnFST

JANUARY 27
There will be a comic and toy show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 2833 Main Street, Hurricane.

FEBRUARY 1
Learn about chemistry during STEMuary at 3:30 p.m. at the Eleanor Library.
The Eleanor Events Planning Committee will meet the first Thursday of every month from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the Eleanor Town Hall.
The American Legion James E. Marshall Post 187 will have a Four Chaplains Memorial Service at 6 p.m. at the Winfield Presbyterian Church on Ferry Street.

FEBRUARY 2

The Putnam County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a meet up at 7:30 a.m. at the Putnam County Main Library.
PipeSounds presents A Night at the Silent Movies with guest artist Peter Krasinski on the Harrah Symphonic Organ at 7:00 p.m. at Forrest Burdette Memorial UMC, Putnam Avenue, Hurricane. Admission is $15 at the door; students are free.

FEBRUARY 3
Red House Baptist Church, 51 Warner Lane, Red House, will be holding a pancake breakfast fundraiser from 8 to 11 a.m. The cost is $6 per person and proceeds go towards youth camp.
The 2024 Hurricane Polar Plunge will start at 3:30 p.m. at Hurricane City Park. The plunge will be at 5 p.m. and there will be an After Party at Fireside Grille.
