The Confidence Elementary Choir held their inaugural concert on Thursday, May 16, at Buffalo High School. The theme of the concert was “Joining Together in Song.” Megan Bailey, a Marshall University graduate student, provided musical accompaniment, and Seth Skiles, music teacher at Rock Branch Elementary, acted as the page turner. Selections chosen for the performance included “Do Re Mi” by Rodgers & Hammerstein and “Springfield Mountain,” a traditional New England folk song.
The newly formed choir is composed of nineteen students in the third through fifth grades who attend Confidence Elementary School on Red House Hill. The children began preparing for the concert in January, staying after school one to two days each week to practice their parts. Buffalo High School was chosen as the performance venue due to its convenient location.
“This concert really proves the dedication the students have, and we are very proud of the hard work they have put in to have such a great concert,” said Matthew Lyon, choir director and music teacher at Confidence Elementary.
The Confidence Elementary Choir is composed of Amelia Beckner, Logan Crago, Bryson Hackett, Afton Hudnall, McKinzy Perkey, Johnny Whittington, Virginia Whittington, Hadley Wiseman, Stella Wyant, Makenzie Gibson, Noah Good, Maddilynn Hill, Charity Hope, Mason Johnson, Berkley Nunley, Branson Nunley, Zoey Rhodes, Ava Truly, and Addison Wagner. Several of the students are also members of the All-County Chorus and All-State Children’s Chorus.
