Community Calendar for Week of December 12

SATURDAYS THROUGH FEBRUARY

  • There will be a free open gym for 1st – 5th graders every Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Zone Out Sports, located on Morris Court, just off Main Street in Hurricane.

NOW – DECEMBER 23

  • The 36th Annual St. Albans Festival of Lights is open nightly from 6 to 9 p.m. at St. Albans City Park.

DECEMBER 12 – 14

  • Walk Thru Bethlehem will be held at Hometown Independent Mission, 25 Third Avenue, Hometown, from 6 to 9 p.m. nightly.

DECEMBER 12

  • Solar United Neighbors of West Virginia will be hosting an online Solar Action Team Meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. The sign up link is at https://bit.ly/WVsolaraction
  • The Putnam Chamber of Commerce will be holding Business After Hours from 5 to 7 p.m. at Peyton Law Firm and Wade Walters, State Farm Agent, 2801 1st Avenue, Nitro.

DECEMBER 13 – 14

  • Buffalo High School Cheer presents All Aboard the Polar Express from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Eleanor Fire Department. Tickets are $10.
  • The Macholah Ballet will be performing The Nativity Ballet at 7 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Bridge Church, 6496 Teays Valley Road, Scott Depot. The performance is free to attend.

DECEMBER 13

  • Friends of Old Time Music and Dance (FOOTMAD) will be hosting a community dance from 7 to 10 p.m. at Kanawha United Presbyterian Church, 1009 Virginia Street E, Charleston.
  • Christ’s Kitchen, 405 B Street, St. Albans, will be holding a spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 5 to 7 p.m. The cost is $10.
  • Paint a beautiful Christmas church from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Coffee With A Twist, 101 Main Avenue, Nitro. The cost for this workshop is $38.50. RSVP by going to py.pl/29x5tT
  • There will be a wreath making workshop at 11 a.m. at the Eleanor Library. Wreath and limited supplies will be provided. Adults and teens welcome.
  • The Eleanor Christmas Parade will begin at 7 p.m. Line up starts at 6 p.m. at PCTC.
  • Game Grove, located in Putnam Village Shopping Center in Teays Valley, will be holding a board game night from 6 to 10 p.m.
  • There will be a Merry and Bright Bonfire from 6 to 8 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane. S’mores, caroling, hot chocolate, and more.

DECEMBER 14

  • The Christmas in Narnia ballet, hosted by True Impact Arts Foundation 501c3, will be held at Marshall University’s Joan C. Performing Arts Center at 5:00 p.m. The cost is $22 per seat. Purchase tickets by going to https://31869.danceticketing.com/r/events
  • The Poca River Hunting, Fishing and Recreation Club, 789 Dupont Road, Poca, will be holding a Christmas event starting at 1 p.m. For more information, call (304) 776-8090.
  • The Winfield Fire Department Christmas Parade will start at 6 p.m. and travel along Route 817. Lineup at 5 p.m. at Winfield High School.
  • The Winfield Nazarene Church, 10822 Winfield Road, will be holding a food pantry from 9 a.m. to noon.
  • Karen Wicker will be signing copies of her book “What Would You Have Me Know?” at 9 a.m. at Panera Bread in Liberty Square, Teays Valley.
  • The Putnam County Moose #2729, located in Putnam Village Shopping Center in Teays Valley, will be holding their grand opening to the public. Doors open at noon, and Hard Reign will be performing from 8 to 11 p.m.
  • The West Teays Elementary Annual Craft Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Valley Park Conference Center in Hurricane.
  • The City of Hurricane Christmas Parade will be held at noon. The theme will be the Hurricane Polar Express.

DECEMBER 15

  • Rock Branch Independent Church, 133 Cross Lanes Drive, Nitro, will be holding their Christmas cantata, “Too Busy,” at 10:45 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Zoology Zone Science Center, located at Valley Park in Hurricane, will be holding an adoption event from 6 to 8 p.m.
    Hurricane First Church of the Nazarene, 358 Route 60, will be holding a Scuba Christmas Program starting at 10:40 a.m.
  • First Baptist Church of Hurricane, 2635 Main Street, will be featuring Bells of Praise and the sights and sounds of Trans-Siberian Orchestra at 8:50 and 11 a.m.
  • Forrest Burdette United Methodist Church, Putnam Avenue, Hurricane, will be featuring “The Light Project,” a Christmas cantata written by Director of Music Mike Barnhouse, at 10:30 a.m.

DECEMBER 16

  • There will be a board game night from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Board Room, located behind the Hurricane Walmart.

DECEMBER 17

  • There will be a free line dancing class at Brookse’s Bar and Grill, 13184 Winfield Road, Winfield, at 7:30 p.m.
    There will be an ugly sweater making party from 6 to 8 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane. You bring the sweater or sweatshirt. The cost is $20.
  • The Hurricane Civic Chorus will be holding their holiday concert, entitled “Sing We Now of Christmas,” at 7 p.m. at Forrest Burdette United Methodist Church, 2848 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane.

DECEMBER 18

  • Express Employment Professionals will be holding a walk-in recruiting and hiring event from noon to 4 p.m. at Area 34, 971 WV Route 34, Hurricane.
  • The Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley will be holding Pre-K Yay! A Preeschool Readiness Activity at 10 a.m.
  • Mission West Virignia Inc., 165 Midland Trail, Hurricane, will be holding a holiday open house from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Learn about foster care and adoption, meet the staff, and judge their annual Christmas door decorating contest.

DECEMBER 19

  • Celebrate Recovery will be holding a community night Christmas dinner at 6:30 p.m. at Buffalo Church of the Nazarene, 25053 Buffalo Road.
  • Cookies in Whoville – a free event for military kids – will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Eleanor Armory, 111 Army Navy Drive, Red House. To RSVP, call 304-541-6740 or 304-543-3120.
  • The Teays Valley Church of God Women’s Missionary Group will be holding their annual Christmas dinner at 6 p.m. at the church. Meet other women from the community. The cost is $25; bring a $15 white elephant gift. For more information, call (304) 757-9222.
  • The Comeback Club, an initiative to help women reintegrate back into the workforce after career breaks, will be holding a job seeker open house at 10 a.m. and an open house for employers at 5 p.m. at Area 34, 971 WV Route 34, Teays Valley.
