Community Calendar for Week of January 9

SATURDAYS THROUGH FEBRUARY

  • There will be a free open gym for 1st – 5th graders every Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Zone Out Sports, located on Morris Court, just off Main Street in Hurricane.

STARTING JANUARY 9

  • Tai Chi lessons will be offered at the Hometown Senior Center, 40 1st Avenue, Hometown, at 10 a.m. on Thursdays. Call 304-586-2745 to register.

  • The Federated Republican Women of the Valley will be honoring law enforcement from 2 to 4 p.m. at Gateway Christian Church Teays Valley, 118 Poplar Fork, Hurricane.

  • Game Grove, located in Putnam Village Shopping Center in Teays Valley, will be holding a board game night from 6 to 10 p.m.

JANUARY 11

  • The Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley will be playing the children’s movie “Surf’s Up” at 10 a.m.
  • The Traveling Jones Band will be performing from 8 to 11 p.m. at Putnam County Moose #2729, Putnam Village Shopping Center, Teays Valley.

  • There will be a Crush Run 5K Training Run and Trail Running Tips primer at 10 a.m. at Meeks Mountain Trails at Hurricane City Park. Meet up at the big red barn.

  • Hurricane High School’s Red Hot and Heat Wave Dinner Theater will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday; noon and 6:30 p.m. on Saturday; and 1 p.m. on Sunday.   • John’s Cyclery will be holding their monthly mountain bike trail ride from 2 to 4 p.m. at Ridenour Lake in Nitro. Meet up at 2 p.m. at the trailhead beside the pump track.

  • The Kanawha Trail Club will be holding a 4-mile hike at Meeks Mountain Trails, Hurricane City Park. Meet up at 1:30 p.m. at the Sprayground.
  • The West Virginia Comics and Toy Show is coming to Social Event Space, 2833 Main Street, Hurricane, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Putnam County Library STEMuary Event: Children can learn how catapults work at 4 p.m. at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley.

  • Facing Hunger Foodbank Mobile Pantry will be at Red House Bible Church, 51 Warner Lane, Red House, from 11 a.m. to noon.

JANUARY 16

  • Putnam County Library STEMuary Event: Learn how to create a hanging birdfeeder at the Buffalo Library during business hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • The Moms With Littles Group, for expectant moms and moms with babies under 3 years old, meets from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Heartbeat of the Valley, 28 Mission Way, Scott Depot.
