Community Calendar for Week of March 20

SATURDAYS THROUGH MARCH

  • There will be a free open gym for 1st – 5th graders every Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Zone Out Sports, located on Morris Court, just off Main Street in Hurricane.

THURSDAYS IN MARCH

  • March My Words: A Creative Writing Workshop will be held every Thursday in March from 10 a.m. to noon at the Poca Library.

MARCH 20

  • A ladies’ exercise group meets at 5:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Nitro, 2200 2nd Avenue, Nitro.

MARCH 21 – 22

  • There will be a barn quilt painting class from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Area 34, 971 West Virginia Route 34, Hurricane. Reservations needed a week in advance. Call 304-741-532 for more information.

  • There will be a Stained Glass Essentials class at 10 a.m. at the Poca Library. Learn the basics of making stained glass creations.
    There will be an evening of praise and thanksgiving starting at 7 p.m. at Bancroft Mission, 5936 Charleston Road.

  • There will be a women’s clothing swap from 2 to 4 p.m. at Bake My Day, 14 Bank Street, Nitro.
  • There will be a Spring Arts and Craft Show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Buffalo Church of God Fellowship Center.
  • Healing Honey: A Women’s Bible Study will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at The Macholah Ballet, 6422 Teays Valley Road, Scott Depot. Registration is $15 per person.
  • Kevin Zhea and Mark Abbot will be performing at 6 p.m. at Barnyard BBQ, Hospital Drive, Hurricane.
  • Valley Vintage, 404B Midland Trail, will be holding a flea market parking lot sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

MARCH 23

  • Dave Wickerham will be playing Popular Hits of the 1950’s-80’s at the Harrah Symphonic Organ at Forrest Burdette United Methodist Church, Putnam Avenue, Hurricane, starting at 3:00 p.m. Admission is $15, with students being free.

MARCH 24 – APRIL 11

  • Lighthouse Baptist Church, located on Route 60, Hurricane, will be holding a three-week clothing giveaway Monday through Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • There will be a genealogy meet-up from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley.

MARCH 25

  • Brookse’s Bar and Grill, 13184 Winfield Road, Winfield offers free line dancing classes on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m.
  • Allen Funeral Home, 2837 Main Street, Hurricane, will be holding an advanced funeral and cremation planning workshop at 2 p.m. RSVP by calling 304-562-9711.
