Community Calendar for Week of May 15

NOW THROUGH THE END OF OCTOBER

  • The Putnam County Farmer’s Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the field beside Exxon, across from the Putnam County Library in Teays Valley.
  • The County Roads Farmers’ Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane.

MAY 16

  • There will be a community gathering starting at 5 p.m. at Mitchell’s Grove, Hometown Park, on Route 62. Ryan Mobley will be performing.
  • The Putnam County Senior Prom (for Senior Citizens) will be held from 4-7 p.m. at the Hometown Senior Center, located at 40 1st Street N, Hometown. This year, the prom will be themed “Enchanted Forest.”” Music by the Wildwood Players.
  • The Pulse Church, 5368 WV Route 34, Winfield, will be holding Come Let Us Adore Him, a night of worship, starting at 6:30 p.m.
  • Christ Community Church, 733 Rocky Step Road, Scott Depot, will be holding Wonder Junction Jamboree for children and families from 6 to 8 p.m. Carnival games, bounce house, activities, and more.
  • There will be an American Red Cross Blood Drive from 12:00—5:00 p.m. at Forrest Burdette Fellowship Hall, Putnam Avenue, Hurricane. Register at RedCrossBlood.org and enter HURRICANECOM.
  • The Wagenfolks VW Club will be holding a Bug Out Cruz-In for VW Bugs from 6 p.m. until dark at the Putnam County Bank parking lot behind McDonalds in Hurricane.

MAY 17

  • Historical Square Community Church, 20058 Buffalo Road, will be holding their annual craft event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • There will be a spring fling at the St. Albans Roadside Park on Route 60 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Music, food, kids’ activities.
  • Food Preservation 101 Series Part 3: Jams & Jellies with Kathy Talley will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Nitro Community Center, 245 Lee Street, off Valentine Circle. For more information, call 304-776-5256 ext. 101.
  • Bake My Day, 14 Bank Street, Nitro, will be holding a beginner crochet class from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost is $20 per person. Sign up by calling (304) 651-2584.
  • The Putnam County Democratic Women’s Club Executive Board & the Club’s Activities Committee will be holding “Desserts & Democracy” – their annual membership drive – from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Eleanor Town Hall, 401 Roosevelt Blvd, Eleanor. RSVP by emailing karensprouse7@outlook.com
  • The Putnam County Pedalers youth mountain bike club will be holding a Try It Out Day from 10 a.m. to noon. Meet at the Eleanor Pool parking lot for registration.

  • The Hurricane High School Class of 1982 will be holding a get together starting at 1 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane, Shelter 2. Dinner will be at 5 p.m.

  • The Winfield High School Symphonic Band will be performing at 7 p.m. at the Buffalo High School auditorium.
  • There will be a blood drive at the First Baptist Church of Eleanor, 901 Roosevelt Blvd. from 1:30 to 6 p.m. Register by calling 1-800-733-2767.
  • There will be a genealogy meet-up at 4 p.m. at the Putnam County Main Library in Teays Valley.

MAY 20 – JUNE 24

  • There will be a tai chi class at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays at the John Henson Senior Center, Putnam Avenue, Hurricane. Call 304-562-9451 to register for this free class.

MAY 20

  • The Putnam County Chamber of Commerce will be holding Business After Hours from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Putnam County Bank, 300 Hurricane Creek Road, Hurricane. RSVP by calling 304-757-6510.
  • The Hurricane Civic Chorus will offer its spring concert, “Sing You the Stars,” at 7:30 p.m., at Forrest Burdette United Methodist Church, 2848 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane.

  • The Putnam County Fair Board will meet at 7 p.m. in the upstairs room of the Eleanor Fire Department (entrance is in the back, up the ramp).
  • The monthly Night Market – featuring vendors, food trucks, and local bands – will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane. This month’s theme will be Bluegrass Night.
