Cicada Brood XIV Emerges, Will Be Heard

This cicada is clinging to the Arkansas Black apple tree at Ranch (Breeze headquarters) on Hurricane Creek Road.

Mother Nature kept her promise when the Brood XIV cicada nymphs on Hurricane Creek came out of hiding after spending the last 17 years underground where the brood has fed on tree roots. Brood XIV spend several hours shedding their old exoskeletons before beginning life anew as adult singing winged creatures.

The Breeze received word of the 17-year cicada appearance from Phyllis Smith on May 12th.
