This youngster demonstrates how the cow was milked in times past during Pioneer Day at Country Roads Farmers Market on Saturday, July 26.

Summer’s bounty is much in evidence at Country Roads Farmers Market at the entrance to Valley Park in Hurricane each and every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

With the exception of one’s own home garden, it is impossible to obtain fresher, less traveled produce than at the Farmers Market.

In addition to their purchase buyers have the opportunity to chat with the very individual who plowed the ground, planted the seed, howed the row, and picked the harvest.

It is the season for sweet corn and much more. Hoy Fellure of Fraziers Bottom needed three tents to shelter his many offerings this last Saturday.

July 26 was special for visitors in that it was Pioneer Day. On this day, youngsters can do it the old fashion way — milking a make-believe cow, shelling and grinding corn. Games included obstacle courses and a scavenger hunt.
