Community Calendar for Week of August 21

NOW THROUGH THE END OF OCTOBER

  • The Putnam County Farmer’s Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the field beside Exxon, across from the Putnam County Library in Teays Valley.
  • The County Roads Farmers’ Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane.

AUGUST 21 – 23

  • The Appalachian Trainer Face Off, an event bringing together horse trainers from around the country to compete and showcasing adoptable horses, will be held at the Winfield Riding Club. For more information, go to https://www.appalachiantrainerfaceoff.com

AUGUST 21

  • The monthly Night Market – featuring vendors, food trucks, and local bands – will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at Valley Park in Hurricane. This month’s theme will be 90’s Night.

AUGUST 22 – 23

  • Lighthouse Baptist Church, 2440 US Route 60, Hurricane, will be holding a clothing giveaway from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

AUGUST 22

  • Horseshoe Heaven on Smith Farm, 121 Banjo Lane, Scott Depot, will be holding Preschool Camp for ages 2-5 from 10 a.m. to noon, and 1 to 3 p.m. The cost is $75 per camper. For more information, call (304) 421-5733.
  • Game Grove, located in Putnam Village Shopping Center in Teays Valley, will be holding a board game night from 6 to 10:30 p.m.

AUGUST 23

  • Maximum Velocity Wrestling will be holding Saturday Night Nitro WV III with Cutting Edge Athletics at 3 McJunkin Road, Nitro. Doors open at 6 p.m.; bell time at 7 p.m. Admission is $10.
  • Code 3 Health and Fitness, 236 Airgas Lane, Poca will be hosting Strongman Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. Participants must be 17 or older to train.
  • The West Virginia Comics, Buy, Sell and Trade Comic and Toy Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Social Event Space, 2833 Main Street, Hurricane.
  • Word of Light Community Church, 23 Young Lane, Hurricane, will be holding a Ladies’ Day: You Grow Girl from 1 to 4 p.m. Bring a snack or dessert to share.
  • Charleston Association of the Deaf will be holding their 77th Annual Picnic from noon to 9 p.m. at Hurricane City Park. Meet at the Red Barn for a day of socialization, good food and games. The cost is $25 for adults; $10 for ages 12-17; and $5 for ages 11-6.
  • There will be a community sing at 6 p.m. at Hurricane Nazarene Church, located on Route 60.

AUGUST 24

  • There will be a Foraging for Mushrooms 101 walk at 4 p.m. at Ridenour Park in Nitro.
  • Mount Vernon Baptist Church, 2150 Mount Vernon Road, Hurricane, will be holding Reach Out Sunday starting at 11 a.m.

AUGUST 25

  • Coffee With A Twist, 101 Main Avenue, Nitro, will be holding a Back to School Prayer Night at 6 p.m.

AUGUST 26

  • Coffee With A Twist, 101 Main Avenue, Nitro, will be hosting First Sips of Fall, featuring pumpkin spice lattes, maple, and cinnamon drinks.
  • There will be an International Overdose Awareness Day Proclamation at 5 p.m. during the Putnam County Commission meeting at the Winfield Courthouse.
  • The Hurricane Civic Chorus will be holding their open house at 7 p.m. at Forrest Burdette United Methodist Church, 2848 Putnam Avenue, Hurricane.

AUGUST 27

  • Summer Nights and Open Mics will be held at Nitro Living Memorial Park, Second Avenue and 21st Street. There will be a pop-up market in addition to an open mic event for musicians, poets, and comedians. Stage opens at 7 p.m.

AUGUST 28

  • Moms Connect of Hurricane at River Ridge Church will be holding an open house at 10 a.m. at River Ridge, 1 Saturn Way, Hurricane. Moms with children ages 0-5 welcome.

AUGUST 29

  • American Pro Wrestling Debuts at the Teays Valley VFW Post #9097, 3836 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door.

AUGUST 30

  • Buffalo Church of the Nazarene, 25053 Buffalo Road, will be holding a men’s prayer breakfast at 8 a.m.
  • Peoples Federal Credit Union in Nitro will be holding a free community shred day from 9 a.m. to noon.
  • There will be a women’s clothing swap from 1 to 4 p.m. at Bake My Day, 14 Bank Street, Nitro. Bring 10 items of new or gently used women’s clothing and trade for something else.
  • The Town of Bancroft will bold their annual town picnic from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • The Putnam County Animal Shelter, 12908 Charleston Road, Red House, will be holding a Sizzle and Sunshine Picnic from 2 to 6 p.m. Food, fun, games, and more.

AUGUST 31

  • There will be Labor Day fireworks starting at 9:30 p.m. at the St. Albans Roadside Park.
  • Wade Chapel Church, 4490 McLane Pike, Red House, will have a 5th Sunday Evening Service, beginning at 7 p,m. Special Singing by the Buffalo Methodist Church.
