GEORGE ‘SONNY’ BERRY
George “Sonny” Berry, born July 10, 1957, went home to be with the Lord on August 31, 2025. He was surrounded by family and friends.
Sonny was preceded in death by his mom Geraldine Davis and his dad Harold Berry. Also waiting for him is his baby brother David Berry and his baby sisters Teresa Setliff and Manoka Berry.
Sonny leaves behind 3 daughters Melanie (Willy), Monica and Tiffany. Grandkids, Chelsee, Jarett, Justin, Kiera, Ashlinn, Kyleigh, Blaine and Lazaiah, And a few great grandsons. He is also survived by his sister Alma Burton of Culloden and Brothers Clinton Berry and Donald Davis (Drema) both of Hurricane, and many more family and friends who will miss him greatly.
Graveside service was at Culloden Community Cemetery, Monday, September 8, 2025.
RUTH CUNNINGHAM
Ruth Emogene Westfall Cunningham, 87, of Nitro, is now at home with her Lord and her God our Savior Jesus Christ as he promised. For those who are saved by acceptance of Christ’s work on the cross to pay our sin debt, “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8. She passed away unexpectly on August 22, 2025 at home.
Ruth was born September 28, 1937 and graduated from Poca High School top of her class. She later went on to obtain a Masters degree from WV State College and was only a dissertation short of a Doctoral PHD.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Freda Westfall as well as siblings Charles Westfall, Ruby Groves and Audrey Keener as well as her own sons Charles and Robert Cunningham.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years Junior Franklin Cunningham, daughter Teresa Figueroa (Dr. Edmundo), grandson Clinton Kelly (Patricia) and Chris Cunningham and sisters Patsy Williams; Peggy Simms (Mac), Earl Westfall (Patsy).
She lived her life dedicated to her Lord and Savior pursuing Christian maturity and witnessing of the good news of the gospel whenever and wherever she could for God’s glory.
Celebration of Ruth’s life was held Saturday, Sept 6, 2025 at Tyler Mt. Funeral Home with Pastors Bobby Goldsberg and Michael Perry officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mt. Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
JAMES ‘JIMBO’ DAVIS
James Logan “Jimbo” Davis, 74, of Poca, passed away September 2, 2025.
Jimbo was born August 31, 1951, in Charleston, to the late William and Maxine Davis. He enjoyed being around his family and will be remembered for the love and joy he shared with those closest to him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Shaw, and brother, John L. Davis.
He is survived by his siblings William L. Davis, Jr., Betty Jane Stewart-Flummer, Mary Francis Weeks, Brenda Lou Davis, and Clarence E. Davis; along with a host of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
At his request, no services will be held.
BRANDON DALE JORDAN
Brandon Dale Jordan, 47, of Pt. Pleasant, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2025 at his home following a long battle with cancer. He was a longtime employee of Diamond Electric in Eleanor. He was a member of the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation.
He is survived by his mother, Tammy Jordan of Hurricane; loving wife of 18 years, Tiffany Bailes Jordan; sons, Kaden Jordan and Brantlee Jordan; grandchildren, Elliott, Colt and Presley Ann; sister, Tara Burton; nephews, Cameron Burton and Carson Burton; special nephew, Owen Green. Brandon is also survived by several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Funeral service was Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Raynes Funeral Home, Eleanor, with Pastor Chris Fulks officiating.
ART KRIVSKY
Art Krivsky, 84, of Scott Depot, passed away September 1, 2025, at home after experiencing declining health. He was born on December 6, 1940, in Altoona, PA, and he grew up in Wellsboro, PA. He was a graduate of Lehigh University with a bachelor of science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He spent the majority of his career (33 years) at the Dupont plant in Belle. Following his retirement from Dupont, he worked as an international safety consultant for a subsidiary of Dupont for numerous years. In work, he valued most the relationships he built with people.
Art’s faith in Christ was central to his life as he lived out his Christian faith by singing, leading choir, teaching Bible studies, and serving in various lay leadership positions in the church. He was most recently a member of Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene.
Art’s greatest joy was his family. He was a godly role model, leaving a legacy of selfless love, commitment, and generosity. His kindness, compassion, and sense of humor will forever be treasured by his family: wife of 62 years, Peg; children Kelly Shenk (Randy), John (Beth), Ryan (Stephanie); seven grandchildren Tyler and Corey Shenk, Andrew, Megan, and Katie Krivsky, J.R. and Kirby Krivsky; five great-grandchildren; sister Fran Homer; close relatives Steve and Barbara King, Sarah, Matt, and Emmalyn Childers. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Winifred Krivsky.
Memorial service was held Friday, September 5, 2025, at Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Charles V. Williams officiating.
MARY MANNING
Mary Manning, 76, of Culloden, went home with the Lord after a long illness at St. Mary’s Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents Wilbert Young and Nell Young Carte; father-in-law and mother-in-law Ivan and Audrey Manning; and twin daughters Melissa Gail and Sheri Dawn.
Mary was a great cook and also enjoyed working in restaurants. Her two favorite were the Hurricane Dairy Queen and the Scott Depot Dairy Queen.
Mary loved her family. She leaves behind her husband Gary Manning of 58 years; her son Gary Jr. (Angela), Peggy Chapman (Bruce), Tammy Boggess (Chad); grandchildren Zachary, Meghan, Kaitlyn Knicely (Marcus), Logan (Oceanna), Michaelya Smith (Mason), Katharinia Tucker and Alexis Manning; great grandchildren Brooklyn Davis, Scarlett Knicely, Austin Davis, Luke Knicely, and not quite ready to appear yet – Sage Knicely, Harper Tucker and Lane Showalter. She is also survived by her siblings: Rodney Young (Debbie), Richard Young (Judy), Wilbert “Junior” Young (Helen), Linda Dugan (Jack), Pam Lockhart (Dale) and Michael Young (Mae); several nieces and nephews, several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
Funeral services was Friday, September 5, 2025, at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, by Pastor David Vickers. Burial was in Forest Memorial Park, Milton.
OTIS RAY STEPHENS
Otis Ray Stephens, 94, of Hometown, passed away unexpectedly on September 7, 2025 at home.
He was born to the late Hollis and Icie Stephens in Ravenswood on November 8, 1930. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vada; son-in-law, Stan Gray; sisters: Opal Chase, O’Dell Bailey, and Jean Davis; brother, Arnold “Bucky” Stephens.
Otis was a US Air Force Veteran. He was a retired carpenter from Kaiser Aluminum, after working 30 plus years, and enjoyed fishing, boating, cheering on the WVU Mountaineers, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandson. He was very proud of them and they were the light of his life. He loved to watch his great grandson play and grow.
Otis came to Christ later in life and faithfully served Him, always looking forward to his nightly prayers with his daughters.
He is survived by his daughters: Debra Loudermilk (Gary) and Angela Gray both of Winfield; grandchildren: Alesha Pittman (Scott), Stephen Loudermilk (Fiance Cassidy), Brian Gray, and Brittany Vicini (Andrew); great-grandson, Isaiah Pittman; his sisters: Eva Barnett and Linda Morgan; and his loving niece, Clara Rhodes who cared for him dearly over the last few years of his life.
Funeral Service for Otis was Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Chapman Funeral Home, Winfield, with Rev. Andrew Gordon officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House.
GEORGIA ELLEN SUMMERS
Georgia Ellen Summers, 92, of Winfield, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025 surrounded by family.
Born and raised in Winfield, Georgia lived a life marked by love, devotion, and strength. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, C. Harold Summers; her parents: Mervin and Marie Terry; and her brothers: Albert Terry and Bernard Terry.
Georgia’s legacy lives on through her devoted daughters: Penny Fisher and husband, Jon of Point Pleasant, Peggy Summers of Winfield, and Beth Pitzer and husband, Doug of Winfield. She was a proud “Memaw” to: Jonathan Fisher and wife, Nora of Winfield, Jarrod Summers and wife, Rebecca of Winfield, and Melinda Bickel and husband, Tyler of Burlington, IA.
Her greatest joy came from her great-grandchildren: Eli, Edward, Kimberly, Toby, Cora, Holden, Hattie, and Caspian- who brought light and laughter into her days and will carry her memory forward with love.
She is also survived by her remaining brother and sisters: Keith Terry of Roanoke, VA, Wayne Terry of Jamesville, NC, Geneva Wesley of La Plata, MD, Elizabeth Ann Hardison of Jamesville, NC, Lynn Craig of Winfield, and Greg Terry of Winfield. Also, affectionately known as “Aunt Georgie” to a host of nieces and nephews which she adored.
Known for hosting large gatherings at her house, she was never happier than when everyone could come together under one roof. She knew no strangers and was quick to invite you into her home to sit at the kitchen table for coffee and good conversation.
A member of Redhouse Bible Church, Georgia was a devoted Christian and we rejoice in knowing that she is now walking the streets of gold beside our savior Jesus Christ and has been reunited with those loved ones that have ascended into heaven before her.
Georgia will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, her spirit, and the deep love she had for her family. Her presence was a source of comfort and strength, and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
Georgia’s Funeral Service was Friday, September 5, 2025, at Chapman Funeral Home, Winfield, with Pastor Greg Blake officiating. Burial was in Bowcott Cemetery, Pliny.
Carole June Thompson
June Thompson, 83, of Winfield, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 in Thomas Hospital after an extended illness. She was born September 18, 1941, to the late Doc and Elsie Young.
She was also preceded in death by her husband Larry Thompson, brothers David, Darrell and Baby Ronnie Young and sister Patty Wilcoxen.
She is survived by her daughters, Debbie Chapman whom she lived with, and Sherri (Scott) Adams, Lana (Matt) Hofeldt; Grandchildren Keith (Missy) Chapman and Brad (Jessie) Chapman; Great Grandchildren Landon, Cole, Harper and Paisley. Brother C D (Joyce) Young. Special friend Wanda Thevenin.
Funeral service was Friday, September 5th, 2025, at Allen Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Hesson officiating. Burial was in Lower Hodges Cemetery.
