The Heat Wave’s “Diamond Heist” featured high energy songs and exhilarating performances.
Diamond heists and haunted houses are the themes of this year’s Red Hot Show Choir and Heat Wave competition shows, which were revealed to the public for the first time this past weekend, January 9 through 11. These talented students performed for audiences four times over the course of three days, with Saturday featuring a performance at noon and one in the evening. In addition to watching the debut of the two performance shows, audiences were treated to a special meal with special singing by students.
Heat Wave, Hurricane’s all-girl show choir, premiered “Diamond Heist,” their theme for the upcoming competition season. The show featured a backdrop which depicted an enormous vault, and performers wore costumes inspired by spies and sophisticated thieves. The accompanying musical arrangements featured high energy songs to match the daring heist theme.
Red Hot Show Choir debuted “Haunted Mansion,” a delightfully spine-chilling show about living in a haunted house. The stage featured a Victorian mansion inspired backdrop with interactive 3D portraits hanging on the wall, and performers sang and dance to songs with a spooky vibe. Teays Valley Cinemas donated 2,500 3D glasses to the school so that the audience could experience the ghosts emerging from the walls. This is the first time that any of Hurricane’s show choirs have incorporated 3D effects into their shows.
With their debut show and dinner theatre out of the way, Red Hot and Heat Wave will be traveling to Beaver Creek, Ohio, this weekend to compete in the first performance of the season.
The Red Hot Show Choir began in 1992, and Heat Wave was formed in 2016. The two choirs have won many awards and recognitions, with Red Hot winning the Heart of America, Nashville, Tennessee, competition in 2025 – the first time the choir has won in a national event.
Red Hot and Heat Wave Show Choirs are directed by Joseph Kincaid, with assistant directors Casey Edwards and Cynthia Coulson, and Instrumental Director Evelyn Bush. Red Hot is choreographed by Randy Sage, Tori Brindis, and Payton Bellman, and Heat Wave is choreographed by Tara Tober and Haven Steele.
