On Tuesday, January 13, Judge Mark Sorsaia filed with the West Virginia Secretary of State to run for the remainder of the Circuit Court Judge term left vacant by the resignation of Judge Joseph K. Reeder in August of 2024. Reeder was elected to an 8-year term to serve as Putnam County Circuit Court Judge in May of 2024.
Sorsaia has been serving as Circuit Court Judge since November 6, 2024. He was appointed to the seat by then Gov. Jim Justice.
Filing with the Secretary of State in Charleston between January 13 and 19 were Sarah Drennan (R) for 20th House of Delegate District and Michael Mosteller (D) and C.D. Caldwell (R) for 21st House of Delegates District. Filing for State Executive Committee Female for 4th District were Karen Coria (D) of Hurricane, Bonnie Fruth (D) of Pt. Pleasant, and Anna Maria Butler (R) of Gallipolis Ferry. Filing for State Executive Committee – Female for 8th District were Erica Moore (R) of Spencer and Katherine McCormick (R) of Dunbar. Filing for State Executive Committee – Male for 4th District were Scott Brewer (D) of New Haven and Jim Butler (R) of Gallipolis Ferry. Filing for State Executive Committee – Male for 8th District were Jacob Hively (D) of Charleston, G. Russell Rollyson (D) of Cross Lanes, and Andy Shamblin (R) of Nitro.

On May 12th Putnam residents will vote to elect non-partisan candidates to the Board of Education (4-year terms), a Conservation District Supervisor (4-year term), the West Virginia Supreme Court (unexpired terms), the Intermediate Court of Appeals, and a Conservation District Supervisor (4-year term).
City of Hurricane voters will also have the opportunity to vote upon a continuing 5-year excess levy projected to begin on July 1, 2027.
Filing with Putnam County Clerk Brian Wood between January 13 and 19 for School Board were Wade Neal (District 2), Karen Dillard (District 2), and Connie Breck (District 2). Brian Ellis (R) filed for County Commissioner (District 3).
